Oversized Negatives or Ultra Large Format Negatives

Oversized Negatives, are any negative larger than 4x5". Ultra Large Format (ULF) film refers to negatives larger than 8x10" (20x25cm).

Advantages of Oversized or Ultra Large Negatives are the sheer size of the negative allows for very precise detail reproduction. Oversized or Ultra Large Negatives can be used to make contact prints, which is a method used with many alternative photographic processes. Images produced have a presence that is difficult to obtain through any other means - mostly the quality of a contact print instead of enlargement.

Less common formats include quarter-plate, 5x7" negative, 8x10" negative (20x25 cm); the size of many old 1920's era Kodak etc. cameras (various versions of Kodak 1, 2, 3, and Master View cameras, to much later Sinar etc. monorail studio cameras), 11x14" negative, 16x20" negative, 20x24" negative, various panoramic or "banquet" formats (such as 4x10" negative and 8x20" negative), as well as metric formats, including 9x12 cm negative, 10x13 cm negative, and 13x18 cm negative, and assorted old and current aerial image formats of 9x9" negative, 9x18" negative (K17, K18, K19, K22 etc)), using roll film of 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, or 10 inches width or digital sensors, view cameras (including pinhole), reproduction / process cameras, and x-ray film and digital cameras.

Not many retailers can convert such large films to digital. Some claim they can convert large film to digital, but what they really do is scan the image in 2 sections and then digitally stitch the image together. This is not a true high quality scan. We can convert films as large as 11x17", it will be scanned as 1 image and saved as a high quality Jpeg or Tiff file.
